It is concerning to see fragrance appear so early in the ingredient list...

It is innovative to use bamboo extract as exfoliating agent. Bamboo is rich in fiber but whether or not it can translate into skin benefits has not been fully studied.

However there are quite a few severely potential irritants in this exfoliator. For this I take away one star.

Skin irritation
oj_line
  • contains grapefruit extract which is irritating to skin. It may cause contact dermatitis or a phototoxic reaction when skin is exposed to sunlight.
  • contains lemon extract which can be a skin irritant, especially on abraded skin.
  • contains rosemary leaf extract whose aromatic components can cause irritation or sensitizing or toxic reactions on skin.
  • contains limonene, fragrant ingredient that can cause contact dermatitis.
  • contains linalool, the fragrant component of lavender which can be a potent skin irritant, allergen, or sensitizer once it is exposed to air.
Fragrance
Should be avoided by people who are allergic to fragrance.
Illness
Contains triethanolamine. Used in cosmetics as a pH balancer, it has the potential for creating nitrosamines. Nitrosamines are readily absorbed through skin and they have been proved to be strong carcinogen. Whether or not the concentrations used in cosmetics should be of concern is still a matter of debate. Better avoid if possible. If you have to use containing products, rinse off completely and use cold water to reduce absorption.
