The ingredient iris root has astringent, healing and protective properties. It is believed to improve the moisture and elasticity of the skin. This toner should leave the skin instantly hydrated.

However there are quite a few severely potential irritants in this toner. For this I take away one star.

Skin irritation
oj_line
  • there is no clear explanation of the “sea water” ingredient. There could be purity and contamination concerns.
  • contains lavender, primarily a fragrance component and may cause serious skin irritation.
  • contains limonene, fragrant ingredient that can cause contact dermatitis.
  • contains linalool, the fragrant component of lavender which can be a potent skin irritant, allergen, or sensitizer once it is exposed to air.
Ingredient ban
Contains chlorphenesin, alcohol used as a preservative in cosmetics. The use is restricted in Japan.
Illness
Contains triethanolamine. Used in cosmetics as a pH balancer, it has the potential for creating nitrosamines. Nitrosamines are readily absorbed through skin and they have been proved to be strong carcinogen. Whether or not the concentrations used in cosmetics should be of concern is still a matter of debate. Better avoid if possible. If you have to use containing products, rinse off completely and use cold water to reduce absorption.
