Though many good ingredients present in this product, I saw the third to the last ingredient prunus amygdalus amara kernel oil, also known as bitter almond oil, and I was worried. Bitter almond oil should not be used for cosmetics because it contains traces of amygdalin which is cytotoxic, meaning it will kill cells. However amygdalin is not found in sweet almond oil.
This serum is meant for menopausal and peri-menopausal women so it is supposed to have strong anti-wrinkle effect. The most potent ingredient of that property is palmitoyl pentapeptide 3, trade name Matrixyl. This is amino-peptide that stimulates collagen, elastin and glucosaminoglycans synthesis. So they should help reduce wrinkles. Lentinus edodes extract is extract from the shiitake mushroom that may have antimicrobial and antibacterial properties. Asian culture believes that eating this will rejuvenate youth. But it can be a potential skin irritant. Serenoa serrulata fruit extract is also known as saw palmetto or seenoa serrulatum. The fruits are highly enriched with fatty acids and phytosterols thus considered potent antioxidant to prevent aging.
The product is quite moisturizing, good for menopausal and therefore often dry skin. Glycine soja (soybean) oil is derived from wild soybeans. It is natural moisturizing factor. It forms a protective film on skin to prevent water loss. Meanwhile soybean oil has potent antioxidant properties. Lecithin is phospholipid found in egg yolks and the membranes of plant and animal cells. It is widely used in cosmetics as an emollient and water-binding agent. Iris root is also known as orris root. It has astringent, healing and protective properties. It is believed to improve the moisture and elasticity of the skin.
I can't get past the bitter almond oil content, so I could only give it a lower-than-3-star review.
