Beta hydroxy acid (BHA) is also known as salicylic acid. BHA is an effective exfoliant and also an anti-irritant. In concentrations of 0.5% to 2%, it gently exfoliates the surface of skin and penetrates into the pore, and thus can exfoliate inside the pore as well as on the surface of the skin to reveal younger looking skin. BHA is effective for reducing blemishes, including blackheads and whiteheads.It also treats acnes due to its anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties. Salicylic acid can improve skin thickness, barrier functions, and collagen production.

The concentration of BHA, however, in this product is not indicated.

The product contains sodium lauryl sulfate which is detergent component for its strong cleansing and foaming effect. When it is applied to skin directly it could be extremely drying and cause skin sentisization. Hopefully the concentration of this ingredient is not high enough to be of significant concerns.
